Movies I Wish I’d Seen in 2012

While I am already planning on catching up on The Sessions, The Master, Amour, Frankenweenie and The Pirates! Band of Misfits for my Oscar Completionist goal, there are quite a few smaller films from 2012 that I very much would have liked to have seen but didn’t quite get the chance too.

Below I’m listing the top 15 films I’m sad to have missed. ย I’m accompanying that list with a poll to let you vote on which ones you think I should make the most of a point to see whenever I get the chance. ย You have 5 chances to vote, and I will take the 5 top choices and Watch/Review them over the course of the next several months.

  1. Coriolanus
  2. The Grey
  3. Rampart
  4. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
  5. Jeff Who Lives at Home
  6. Headhunters
  7. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
  8. Safety Not Guaranteed
  9. Ruby Sparks
  10. Your Sister’s Sister
  11. Killer Joe
  12. Celeste and Jesse Forever
  13. For a Good Time Call…
  14. Robot & Frank
  15. Arbitrage

Let me know what you think I should see, what I should avoid, and what I’ve left off the list. ย Check back later this week for my Top 10 Movies of the Year and my reviews of Haunted House and Broken City.

I'm a student at the University of Washington Majoring Business. I've always loved movies and my goal is to work on the financial side of the film industry. Until then though, I figure I'll spare my friends from my opinions and shout them from a digital mountaintop for anyone who's interested. After all, if a tree falls in a forest and nobody blogs about it, does it really happen?

  1. The only one of those I’ve actually seen is Rampart, which is alright but I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it. Worth a watch if you happen to catch it though. I’ve got a huge list of films I missed out on from last year. Too many movies!

I loved Ruby Sparks and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, must see those ๐Ÿ™‚

My personal votes were for those two, The Grey, Headhunters and Safety not Guaranteed, we’ll see which ones end up getting into the top 5 ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Every blogger raved about Ruby Sparks, and I really want to see it. Definitely check out Killer Joe–great acting with a super twisted plot.

  4. Definitely The Grey. It’s not a two-hour wolf fight, and it’s all the better for it.

I really enjoyed Jeff Who Lives at Home, and Arbitrage has some solid performances even if its story isn’t nearly as twisty as it seems to think it is. Safety Not Guaranteed is charming but slight. And Killer Joe is an interesting bit of Southern Gothic grotesequery, but it veers off into Insaneville in the last half hour or so in a way that kind of turned me off the film as a whole.

Ya wish I’d seen the grey too, and I did really want to see For A good time call…..
However, you missed nothing by not watching Headhunters – I was so excited about that film too and it just didn’t do anything for me.

Headhunters is very good – one of the best. The Grey is quite good as well – haven’t seem the others yet.

  7. I like this idea, although I’m afraid for you to have to see The Grey. It is not as good as many lead to believe.

Make sure that, regardless, you watch Ruby Sparks and Safety Not Guaranteed! I also voted for Headhunters, Robot and Frank, and Coriolanus! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Wow. Five choices seemed extravagant seeing as I had seen several on there. LOL. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But I went with Killer Joe first and foremost, as that’s the one that people have been singing the virtues of the most. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve missed a few and wish I’d missed My Sister’s sister and Safety Not Guaranteed. Ruby Sparks is nice and Best Exotic is a close #2 for best 2012 film pic.

  10. I have a lot to also to see from 2012, good list ๐Ÿ˜€

  11. Ruby Sparks, Arbitrage and Killer Joe are among my favorite 2012 films so I voted for those. Also went with Headhunters and The Grey which I haven’t seen yet but I’ve heard great things about.
