February Wrap-Up: Thank God for Spring

It’s been a hell of a long couple months, but I’ve finally made it into the spring movie season!  While some of my most highly anticipated films are still at least a few months off, there are still at least a few rays of light in March to keep me going.  Here is a look at all 10 of this February’s wide releases and how they stacked up from my point of view.

7.5/10  –  Superior

Snitch

Side Effects

6.5/10  –  Perfectly Adequate

Beautiful Creatures

6.0/10  –  Passable

Warm Bodies

5.5/10  –  Nothing Special

Escape From Planet Earth

Safe Haven

5.0/10  –  Mediocre

A Good Day to Die Hard

4.5/10  –  Sub-Par

Dark Skies

4.0/10  –  Not Worth It

Identity Thief

3.5/10  –  Only if Nothing Else is On

Bullet to the Head

Here are some tidbits about February’s releases:

– The average Rotten Tomatoes Score from February was 42% (up from 31% in January)

– Only Two out of the 10 were “Fresh” (Up from 1 in January)

– The average Metacritic Score from February was 47/100 (up from 39/100 in January)

– Per Metacritic, one film was ranked positive, four were negative and the rest were mixed

– My average score was 5.6/10 (up from 4.8/10 in January)

– My picks for most underrated would go to Snitch and Beautiful Creatures

My pick for most overrated go to Bullet to the Head

Here’s to the hope for a better March, but at this point there is still nearly nowhere to go but up!

About r361n4

I'm a student at the University of Washington Majoring Business. I've always loved movies and my goal is to work on the financial side of the film industry. Until then though, I figure I'll spare my friends from my opinions and shout them from a digital mountaintop for anyone who's interested. After all, if a tree falls in a forest and nobody blogs about it, does it really happen?

There hasn’t been a notable film that’s come out so far this year. I hope the next few months improve. Nice write-up.

  2. Awful couple of months!

Oooh, I think I’ll actually check out Warm Bodies today, hopefully I’ll like it more than you. I hate average movies the most, nothing to rave about and nothing so bad it can make you laugh.

I hope you do too and it sounds like most people did like it more than me. I think my personal biases against the young adult genre and my nit pickiness with Zombie rules got in my way for it, lol. I still enjoyed it at least
